Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 - Summary of Duties

 

All Construction Projects (Part 2 of the Regulations)

 

Additional duties for Notifiable Projects (Part 3 of the Regulations) Projects which last longer than 30 days OR involve more than 500 person days of work

Check competence of all appointees

 

Appoint CDM co-ordinator (CDMC)

 

Ensure there is suitable management arrangements for the project including welfare

 

Appoint principal contractor

 

Allow sufficient time and resources for all stages

 

Make sure that the construction phase does not start unless there are suitable:

 

Provide pre-construction information

 

                    

                         Welfare facilities      

                         Construction phase plan                           

 

All projects over £300k - Require your design team to develop a design stage SWMP (Site Waste Management Plan).  Inform Principal Contractor (PC).  A site waste management plan (SWMP) is required - Over £500k a comprehensive SWMP is required.

 

Provide information relating to the H&S File to the CDMC

 

 

       

 

 

Retain and provide access to the health and safety file.

 

 

       

 

 

There must be a CDMC and Principal Contractor until the end of the construction phase.

Check the client is aware of their duties and CDMC has been appointed and HSE notified before starting work.  Display F10 on Site

 

 

       

 

 

Plan, manage and monitor construction phase in liaison with contractors

 

 

       

 

 

Prepare, develop and implement written plan and site rules (initial plan completed before construction phase commences)

 

 

       

 

 

Provide contractor with relevant parts of the plan

 

 

       

 

 

Check competence of appointees (contractors, suppliers etc...)

 

 

       

 

 

Ensure all workers have a site induction and any further information and training needed to ensure their safety

 

Not required - unless a project is over £300k then a Principal Contractor  MUST be appointed under SWMP Regs 2008

 

Liaise with CDMC regarding ongoing design
